Lakes Course at Walden Lake – Good Deal, Good Golf

Walden Lake, Lakes Course: 15th hole

The par 3, 15th hole is all over water. Use enough club as there is plenty of room to the left of the green.

I used to play Walden Lake Golf and Country Club quite a bit a few years back, but haven’t recently so on Monday I decided to give it a shot. As I looked for a tee time I noticed I could book one online and get 50% off so I was able to get an 11:30 am spot for $17. At this price even if the course wasn’t in the best condition, it was still golf. My only concern was to try to beat the off and on summer rain.  I printed out my web confirmation and headed out.

Walden Lake has two courses, the Lakes and Hills. I played the Lakes. It has 4 sets of tees that range from 6500 yards to just under 5000. The Lakes Course has a challenging feel, even though the holes are not long. There is water that can come into play on several holes and tight tree-lined fairways on those that don’t. There are also some holes with both water and tight fairways. You will need to use a variety of shots as this course demands accuracy, length and a good short game. The only downside I found playing the course was that I had trouble finding yardage markers which are there, but a little hidden in undergrowth.

Despite the low rate, the course was in really good condition. The tees were in good shape although not recently cut. The fairways were nice other than 10 and 11, and being cut as I played. The greens were in good shape and rolling true. I did notice that  on some holes the area just off the green was a little wet which caused my ball to plug. I played as a single and there were not many players out on the Lakes course so I was able to get  around in 2 hours and 45 minutes, despite having to take shelter for a 10 minute rain shower.

To warm up, Walden Lake has a medium-sized driving range and chipping area. A practice putting green is also located near the small but functional Pro Shop. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Walden Lake Golf and Country Club is a good value for your money.  Remember the online deals and go to  if you want to give it a try.  The course is located a half hour drive from downtown Tampa in Plant City, FL.

  1. [...] As before the staff was friendly upon arrival and if you have the time you can take advantage of a driving range, chipping and bunker area, and large putting green. The price for my 11:05 tee time was $27 which is a fair price for morning play. I also booked my tee time online which can save you money, so it’s always good to check. I was able to get through the course in just under 2 1/2 hours which is a bonus. For more information, you can check out my post on the Lakes course from August: Lakes Course at Walden Lake – Good Deal, Good Golf. [...]
