Lake Jovita Golfers Enjoy “Pro”-Like Experience

Lake Jovita South Course 10th hole

The 10th is a downhill dog-leg right par 4. Favor the left side for a clear second shot.

With a couple of PGA golfers as members, Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club knows how to treat a pro and they apply that treatment to all their guests.  Attendants meet you at the bag drop-off area and unload your clubs for you.  The  facillities have a driving range with all the free golf balls you care to hit and also a large putting green for you to hone your skills.  The carts have coolers to store your beverage of choice keeping you hydrated on hot sunny days.  You can also get cups of ice and water before you tee off and at the turn.

In spite of the other perks, the real stars here are the golf courses.  We golfed the Lake Jovita South Course which has rolling terain, wetlands and plenty of sand making this course quite demanding.  The good news is there are 6 different tee’s  with handicap suggestions for which tee best fits you and your group.  Yardage differs in length from just over 7100 from the tips to 5100 yards at the shallow end.  There are no GPS systems in the carts however determining your yardage is made easier as sprinkler heads throughout the course offer yardages from a variety of spots .

The overall condition of the course was good.  Tee boxes and fairways were perfectly mown and very playable.  The sand traps were all nicely maintained with rakes in them to clean up after your shot.  The one blemish on the course was the greens which had been aerated the week before but were recovering quickly.  The upshot was that we were told this when we made our tee time and were rewarded for playing with a $30 replay card to either course, a free Lake Jovita golf hat and a sleeve of golf balls.  This is a great deal considering that many courses don’t let you know the greens have been aerated until you get to the first green.

The price for a weekend morning was $49 which is a fair price for the course and reflects the change to lower summer rates. Rates are discounted for afternoons and weekdays.  The pace of play was good although we played through several groups.  We tee’d off as a twosome at 9:15 and got around in 3 1/2 hours.

Lake Jovita is located about 30 to 40 mins minutes north of downtown Tampa off I-75 on SR52 near the small town of San Antonio and St. Leo University.  For more information visit their website at
